What we Believe and what we do
The Church Statement of Faith
The church has a statement of faith that sets out the main points of what we believe concerning the main theological doctrines. The church constitution contains requirements for membership, leadership and the church meeting. The church is a member of the Evangelical Alliance.
BaptismWe encourage believers to be baptised in water by total immersion following the practice in the New Testament. We also encourage people to be baptised (filled) with the Holy Spirit. However these are not conditions of membership.
CommunionWe remember together Jesus' death normally twice each month; once during a morning service and once in the evening. At these times we break a loaf of bread and share it to remind us of his body that was broken for us, and we drink an individual glass of grape juice to remind us of his blood that was shed for us.
Weekly ActivitiesAll members are encouraged to join in a mid-week activity which may be in the form of a house-group, Bible study, prayer group, or general time of teaching. There are also craft groups, musician groups, and youth activities that welcome the participation of members.
LeadershipResponsibility for decisions in the church resides with the elders (the constitution requires there to be a minimum of three). Their suitability for the task is recognised every five years by a ballot of the whole membership. The elders may recommend to the church additional elders and appoint other people to take responsibility for particular jobs; practical and spiritual. While we welcome woman and men to these jobs our understanding of scripture is that woman should not be elders.
The Church MeetingThis is a time when the elders report to the members what they have done since the previous meeting and what they plan to do in the future. It is also the main safeguard against the wrong use of authority because at any time a simple majority of the membership can remove an elder from leadership if he no longer has the confidence of the members.
